PAMPANGA — FedEx has broken ground on the expansion of its gateway facility at Clark International Airport, reinforcing the Philippines’ role as a key trans-shipment hub within the company’s Asia Pacific network.
In a statement, FedEx said the upgraded facility will cover more than 78,000 square meters and will feature enhanced handling and operational capabilities designed to improve shipment flow and service reliability for customers.
The company said the expanded Clark gateway will strengthen its capacity to support express, e-commerce and freight shipments, while improving overall network resilience as cross-border trade continues to grow across the region.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Frederick Go, secretary of the Department of Finance, and Cristina Roque, secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry.
Also present were Joshua Bingcang of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority, Noel F. Manankil of Luzon International Premiere Airport Development, Agnes Devanadera of the Clark Development Corporation, and Mybelle V. Aragon-GoBio of Robinsons Land Corporation.
Masamichi Ujiie, president of FedEx North Pacific and South Pacific, said the expansion reflects the company’s continued investment in the Philippines and its efforts to build a stronger and more resilient logistics network in the region.
Finance Secretary Go said the project would enhance the country’s global connectivity and help Filipino businesses reach more international markets.
FedEx opened its Clark gateway in October 2021 and signed a land lease agreement with LIPAD in July 2024 for the expansion.
Construction is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2026, with Robinsons Land Corporation serving as the project developer.
The facility will incorporate sustainability features, including energy-efficient lighting, insulated building materials, rainwater collection systems, electric vehicle charging stations, and provisions for future solar power installation.
FedEx said the expansion forms part of its broader strategy to improve network reliability, enhance customer service, and support long-term growth across the Asia Pacific region. (PR)
