MARIVELES, BATAAN — Known for its rich coastal waters and vibrant shoreline communities, Mariveles remains a place where people and nature have long thrived side by side. Yet like many coastal towns, it continues to face the growing challenge of marine pollution as plastic and debris wash ashore.
In its continuing efforts in environmental stewardship, AboitizPower private limited partnerships GNPower Mariveles Energy Center (GMEC) and GNPower Dinginin (GNPD) inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Local Government of Mariveles last April 20, 2026 to help restore local shorelines and equip the youth with life-saving disaster response skills.

A Shared Commitment. GMEC-GNPD representatives join Mariveles Mayor AJ Conception in signing the two MOAs.
The project involves an investment of ₱300,000 to mobilize coastal cleanups to protect marine biodiversity and revitalize local shores. The rollout begins with Phase 1 at Aguawan Beach in Barangay Sisiman this May, with Phase 2 following at Dinginin Beach in Sitio Dinginin in September.
This effort is a true community bayanihan, bringing together volunteers from GMEC, GNPD, and the local community. The Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) will lead the logistics to ensure all collected litter is managed responsibly.
The second project dedicates an additional ₱300,000 investment to Disaster Risk Reduction Training for local youth organizations. Facilitated by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), the training empowers young Mariveleños to be capable leaders equipped with the skills to keep their families and neighbors safe during emergencies or crises.
This partnership reflects the long-term partnership of GMEC and GNPD with the Mariveles community. By combining resources and expertise, the company and the local government are taking proactive steps towards a more sustainable and resilient future for the next generations. (PR)
