SUBIC BAY FREEPORT –The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has launched a motu proprio investigation into the reported involvement of foreign nationals in an alleged unauthorized attempt to enter and take control of private resort facilities in Subic Bay Freeport last April 8.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado has ordered the immediate verification of the identities, immigration status, and activities of the individuals involved, including American national Timothy Desmond, who was reportedly part of the group that attempted to gain entry into the premises without proper authority.
“We will not allow foreign nationals to exploit their presence in the country to interfere in domestic affairs or disrupt public order,” Viado said.
He has likewise directed concerned BI units to coordinate with the National Police Commission, the Philippine National Police, and the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Viado further ordered a review of the visa status and travel history of the individuals involved, and the evaluation of possible grounds for their inclusion in the immigration watchlist or blacklist, as well as the initiation of deportation proceedings should violations of Philippine immigration laws be established.
The BI emphasized that foreign nationals are strictly prohibited from engaging in activities beyond the scope of their authorized stay, including involvement in local disputes or attempts to assert control over private entities without lawful authority.
“Any foreign national found to have abused the privilege of staying in the country will be dealt with accordingly, including deportation and blacklisting,” Viado added.
The Bureau assured the public that it will act swiftly and decisively to uphold Philippine laws and protect national interest.
