BALER, Aurora — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), through Coast Guard Station Aurora (CGS Aurora), rescued five tourists who were caught in a rip current while swimming off Barangay Sabang, Baler, Aurora, on Sunday afternoon, November 1, 2026.

The incident occurred at around 4:20 p.m., approximately 20 to 30 meters offshore, when the tourists encountered strong waves and a rip current that pulled them away from the shoreline.

Upon noticing the tourists in distress, Coast Guard personnel, together with the Baywatch team, immediately launched a rescue operation and safely brought all five individuals back to shore.

Following an assessment, all five tourists were confirmed unharmed, with no injuries reported and no need for hospital admission or further medical attention.

The PCG reminded beachgoers to observe safety advisories, remain vigilant while swimming, and avoid entering the water during hazardous sea conditions. It also warned that rip currents and strong waves can pose serious risks, even to experienced swimmers.

The swift and coordinated rescue operation underscores the PCG’s commitment to safeguarding lives at sea and ensuring the safety of tourists and coastal communities. (Jason de Asis)
