MORONG, Bataan — Members of Southeast Asian civil society organizations, together with the Nuclear Free Bataan Movement (NFBM), KILUSAN, Young BEAN, and other groups, held a protest at the gate of the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) on October 27, 2026, to oppose nuclear expansion and call for the plant’s dismantling.

The protest was followed by a solidarity caravan through nearby barangays in Morong, Bataan, where participants raised concerns about nuclear power, environmental protection, and the rights of communities to participate in decisions affecting their lives, land, and future.

The activity concluded at the Morong Tourism Hall with a discussion on nuclear energy, its potential effects, and its implications for future generations. Participants included representatives of Southeast Asian civil society organizations, local and provincial government officials, and veterans who shared their experiences and perspectives on past struggles, as well as their views and concerns about nuclear energy.

The event formed part of the People’s Solidarity Caravan under the 2026 ASEAN Civil Society Conference/ASEAN People’s Forum (ACSC/APF). Organizers said the initiative aimed to highlight community participation, local democracy, environmental justice, and opposition to nuclear expansion.

Through the protest, caravan, and community dialogue, participants reiterated their call for the dismantling of the BNPP and emphasized the role of communities in decisions concerning energy development and environmental safety. (Ang Pahayagan Reportorial Team)
