BALER, Aurora — The Aurora State College of Technology (ASCOT) participated in the Pre-Plenary Hearings on the proposed Fiscal Year 2027 budgets of State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) at the House of Representatives on Sept. 21, 2026, as the institution presented its budgetary requirements and continuing development priorities.

ASCOT President Dr. Renato G. Reyes, together with other SUC presidents from Luzon, took part in the proceedings where state colleges and universities discussed their financial requirements, major programs and projects, accomplishments, fund releases, and concerns affecting budget execution.

During the budget hearings, Reyes also met with Aurora Lone District Representative Rommel Rico T. Angara to discuss ASCOT’s proposed FY 2027 budget and the institution’s priority programs and projects.

The discussions covered ASCOT’s resource requirements in support of its academic programs, services, research, innovation, community engagement, and continuing institutional development.

Also representing ASCOT during the proceedings were Dr. Oscar C. Barawid, Vice President for Administration, Planning and Finance, and Mr. Sherwin Serrano, head of the ASCOT Budget Unit.

Meanwhile, Angara announced that the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has approved 100 plantilla positions for Instructor I at ASCOT under DBM NOSCA Serial No. 0302026-09-308.

The approved positions are classified under Salary Grade 12, Step 1, with a monthly salary of PHP33,947, and a reported total annual budget allocation of approximately PHP16.4 million.

The new plantilla items will cover nine academic schools of ASCOT: the School of Agricultural Sciences; School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences; School of Forestry and Environmental Sciences; School of Education; School of Engineering; School of Industrial Technology; School of Information Technology; School of Arts and Sciences; and School of Accountancy and Business Management.

The announced minimum qualifications include a master’s or doctoral degree in the relevant discipline, with no experience or training required. Eligibility is RA 1080 in the discipline, where applicable.

The approval of the new plantilla positions is expected to increase ASCOT’s permanent teaching complement as the institution continues to strengthen its academic programs and pursue further institutional development, including its efforts toward university status.

ASCOT’s participation in the national budget process and its coordination with government partners form part of its continuing efforts to secure the resources needed to implement its programs and fulfill its mandate in higher education. (Jason de Asis)
