SUBIC BAY FREEPORT— Authorities conducted a joint inspection of nine recycling locator companies inside the Subic Bay Freeport Zone on July 1 following reports of suspected electronic waste, officials said.
In a statement released by the BOC on Sunday, July 5, the joint inspection was led by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources–Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) in coordination with the Bureau of Customs (BOC) and the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA).
Officials said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to verify compliance with environmental and customs regulations and to protect public health and the environment.
An interagency meeting is scheduled for July 6 to discuss and present the DENR-EMB’s official findings, if available, to invited stakeholders, including representatives of several non-governmental organizations.
The BOC, DENR and SBMA said they will continue to coordinate in enforcing environmental and customs laws, promoting environmental sustainability and protecting the public interest.
