DTI, SBMA Hold Seminar on EV Safety Standards, E-Transport Loan Program

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Zambales, in partnership with the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Maintenance and Transportation Division, conducted a seminar on safety standards for electric vehicle (EV) charging equipment and stations, along with a briefing on the government’s E-Transport Loan Program, at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center on June 11.

The seminar aimed to promote the safe and sustainable adoption of electric mobility technologies by educating stakeholders on the proper standards for EV charging infrastructure and related accessories.

During the activity, DTI Trade and Industry Development Specialist Engr. Micaella Novesteras discussed the safety standards governing EV charging equipment, charging stations, and accessories. She emphasized the importance of complying with Philippine National Standards to ensure that EV infrastructure remains safe, reliable, and accessible for both businesses and consumers.

The discussion highlighted the country’s continuing efforts to accelerate electric vehicle adoption under Republic Act No. 11697, or the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA). The law seeks to develop the local EV industry while promoting the use of cleaner and more sustainable transportation options.

Participants were also briefed on the E-Transport Loan Program, a P2-billion financing facility designed to assist small transport operators in transitioning to electric vehicles. The program aims to help address rising fuel costs while supporting the government’s push for sustainable mobility solutions.

Eligible beneficiaries include transport network vehicle service (TNVS) drivers and operators with valid authority from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and proper business registration.

The activity supports the national government’s efforts to reduce dependence on petroleum products across residential, commercial, industrial, and public utility sectors. It is also aligned with the administration’s broader strategy to accelerate the use of renewable energy, expand electric mobility in mass transport, integrate renewable energy in key industries, develop active transport infrastructure, and strengthen public awareness on sustainable transportation practices.

Officials said the seminar forms part of ongoing initiatives to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles and ensure that the necessary infrastructure meets established safety and quality standards.
