PCG Rescues Fishing Boat Stranded Off Zambales

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) vessel BRP Cape San Agustin (MRRV-4408) promptly responded to a distressed fishing boat that suffered engine failure in the waters off Zambales on May 20, 2026.

According to the PCG, the fishing banca identified as FBCA Willyn experienced engine trouble while at sea, prompting authorities to immediately establish radio communication with the vessel and proceed to its location.

BRP Cape San Agustin later visually sighted FBCA Willyn approximately four nautical miles away and deployed its Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB) to assess the situation.

The response team conducted engine troubleshooting and provided medical evaluation and assistance to the crew onboard the fishing boat.

Following the assessment, personnel aboard MRRV-4408 successfully secured a towing line to FBCA Willyn.

Towing operations remain ongoing, with the fishing boat expected to arrive in Subic, Zambales on the afternoon of May 21, 2026.

The PCG said the successful operation highlights its commitment under the Intensive Community Assistance, Awareness, Response, and Enforcement (iCARE) Program, which supports the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to safeguard lives at sea through timely maritime response, humanitarian assistance, and responsive public service.
