Inter-Agency Team Mounts Swift Response to Bus Crash in Maria Aurora; Public Urged to Prioritize Road Safety

MARIA AURORA, Aurora — A coordinated inter-agency response was swiftly carried out following a passenger bus crash in Sitio Dimotol, Barangay Dianawan, Maria Aurora, on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, authorities reported.

Joint personnel from the Maria Aurora Municipal Police Station (MPS), led by Police Major Ferdinand B. Usita, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and barangay officials, including members of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT), immediately responded to the scene to conduct rescue and traffic management operations.

Upon receiving the report, responders proceeded to the area and ensured the prompt evacuation and assistance of injured passengers while securing the crash site to prevent further hazards and maintain the orderly flow of traffic.

Emergency responders from the MDRRMO and BFP administered first aid and medical assistance to those affected, while police personnel handled crowd control, traffic direction, and initiated an investigation into the incident.

The Maria Aurora MPS commended the strong coordination among responding agencies, highlighting the critical role of inter-agency cooperation in ensuring public safety and effective emergency response.

“We remind motorists and public utility vehicle operators to exercise extra caution, conduct regular inspections, and strictly observe traffic rules and road safety measures to prevent similar incidents,” Police Major Usita said.

Meanwhile, the Aurora Police Provincial Office (PPO) reiterated its call for heightened vigilance and road safety following the incident.

Initial investigation revealed that the bus was traveling westbound along the Pantabangan–Baler Road en route to Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija, when it encountered mechanical failure while navigating a steep section of the road. The vehicle’s engine reportedly stalled, and despite attempts by the driver to restart it, the bus rolled backward uncontrollably. It subsequently struck a box culvert before plunging approximately 20 feet into a ravine.

The bus was carrying 41 passengers at the time of the incident. The driver, conductor, and three passengers sustained minor injuries and were immediately given first aid by MDRRMO responders. The injured individuals later declined further hospital treatment. Authorities said the vehicle incurred damage, the extent of which is still under assessment.

In light of the incident, the Aurora PPO urged motorists to ensure that vehicles are in proper working condition before traveling, particularly when navigating mountainous and high-risk roads. Drivers are advised to conduct routine checks on brakes, engine performance, and other critical components, and to remain cautious when traversing steep or winding routes.

“The safety of the riding public remains our top priority. We urge all motorists and transport operators to be vigilant and responsible on the road. Preventive measures and proper vehicle maintenance can significantly reduce the risk of accidents,” said Acting Provincial Director Police Colonel Percival R. Pineda.
