PULILAN, Bulacan — A woman was arrested after authorities seized 170 bundles of unregistered baby diapers worth ₱180,000 during an operation at a warehouse in Barangay Sta. Peregrina here on October 27.

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Bulacan Provincial Field Unit, in coordination with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Pulilan Municipal Police Station, conducted the operation at around 11:06 a.m. for alleged violations of Republic Act 7394, or the Consumer Act of the Philippines.

Authorities said the suspect was caught selling and distributing assorted baby diapers that were unregistered and did not comply with the minimum labeling requirements for consumer products.

Under Section 77 of the Consumer Act, consumer products must carry the required labeling information, including the name and address of the manufacturer or importer, country of origin, date of manufacture, and raw material composition, where applicable.

The CIDG said the absence of proper labels makes it difficult to trace the manufacturers or importers of consumer products and determine their compliance with safety standards.

The agency also warned that unregistered baby diapers may pose health risks to infants because their quality, safety and hygiene standards have not been established through the required evaluations.

The CIDG commended Police Col. Grant A. Gollod, chief of the CIDG Regional Field Unit 3, and the Bulacan Provincial Field Unit, led by its provincial officer, Police Maj. Domingo A. Resma Jr., for the operation.

The agency urged consumers to avoid purchasing unregistered or improperly labeled diaper products and report suspected sellers to the CIDG, DTI or Food and Drug Administration (FDA). (PNP CIDG Press Release)
