SAN MARCELINO, Zambales — Police and local government officials conducted a community engagement program for about 100 local boat operators in Barangay Buhawen here on Sept. 25.

Personnel of the San Marcelino Municipal Police Station, led by PMAJ Exodus C. Rodriguez, conducted the JBM Cares “Tulong at Kalinga” program in coordination with the Zambales Police Provincial Office and the San Marcelino municipal government.

The activity included the distribution of food packs and life vests to local boat operators, or “bankeros,” from Barangays Aglao and Buhawen.

Authorities also conducted information sessions on safety, security and environmental concerns.

PMAJ Janice Pice C. discussed drug awareness, while PMAJ Joshua Aboga of the Olongapo City Maritime Police Station discussed illegal fishing and environmental laws.

Mar Azheron Marasigan of the Philippine Coast Guard Mobile Team-San Marcelino discussed PCG Memorandum Circular No. 05-12, including pre-departure inspections, motorbanca registration and the Safety, Security and Environmental Numbering System.

The program was sponsored by the Zambales PPO under Provincial Director PCOL Benjamin P. Ariola in coordination with the San Marcelino Local Government Unit led by Mayor Elvis R. Soria.

Organizers said the initiative sought to strengthen police-community relations, promote the safety and welfare of boat operators, and improve compliance with maritime safety and registration requirements.

The activity also aimed to strengthen cooperation among law enforcement agencies, the local government and the boating community in promoting a safe and environmentally responsible community.
