New Book Highlights Philippine Eagle Conservation

QUEZON CITY — A new book that explores the life, history, and conservation of the Philippine Eagle is now available nationwide.

Written by wildlife photographer and conservation advocate Alain Pascua, Lord of the Forest: The Fall and Rise of the Great Philippine Eagle presents the story of the country’s national bird and the challenges it faces amid habitat loss and environmental threats.

The narrative nonfiction book combines science, history, conservation, culture, and storytelling to examine the Philippine Eagle’s journey from its origins and scientific discovery to ongoing efforts to protect one of the world’s rarest and largest eagle species.

Structured into five parts and 26 chapters, the book draws from scientific studies, historical records, field observations, interviews, and conservation experiences. It discusses the eagle’s biology, behavior, habitat, and conservation challenges, while proposing approaches that connect biodiversity protection with sustainable development and community participation.

According to Pascua, the book aims to make conservation issues more accessible to a wider audience, including students, educators, policymakers, researchers, and the general public.

Several conservation experts and public policy advocates have praised the publication for highlighting the importance of protecting the Philippine Eagle and its forest habitat.

The book also serves as a companion volume to Pascua’s 2017 publication, Haring Ibon: The Great Philippine Eagle, and is envisioned as the second installment of a trilogy focused on the Philippine Eagle.

Published by Birds in Focus, Inc., Lord of the Forest: The Fall and Rise of the Great Philippine Eagle underscores the link between the survival of the Philippine Eagle, forest conservation, biodiversity, climate resilience, and the well-being of Filipinos.
