BALER, Aurora — Dengue cases in Aurora province have reached 2,799 as of October 17, 2026, marking a 150-percent increase from the 1,119 cases recorded during the same period last year, according to the Aurora Provincial Health Office (PHO), headed by Dr. Myrna P. Nicer.

In its latest dengue update posted on its official Facebook page, the PHO reported 77 new cases, bringing the provincial total to 2,799. Eight dengue-related deaths have also been recorded, with a case fatality rate of 2 percent.

The reported cases involved patients ranging in age from one month to 104 years, with a median age of 12 years. Children aged one to 10 accounted for 1,174 cases, or 42 percent of the total, while females comprised 1,407 cases, representing 50 percent.

Maria Aurora recorded the highest number of cases at 598, accounting for 21 percent of the provincial total. Dilasag, meanwhile, posted the highest attack rate at 27.8 cases per 1,000 population.

In response to the rising number of infections, the provincial government, through the PHO, urged residents to strengthen dengue prevention efforts by practicing the 5S strategy against dengue.

These measures include Search and Destroy, or eliminating mosquito breeding sites; Self-Protection Measures, such as using mosquito nets and insect repellents and wearing long-sleeved clothing; and Seek Early Consultation at the first sign of possible dengue symptoms.

The strategy also includes Support Fogging in areas where spraying is recommended by health authorities, particularly during dengue outbreaks, and Sustain Hydration by drinking enough water.

The PHO emphasized that dengue prevention requires the participation of every household and community, urging residents to regularly clean their surroundings, remove stagnant water, and seek prompt medical attention when symptoms develop.

The health office continues to encourage collective action to reduce mosquito breeding sites and prevent further dengue transmission across the province. (Jason de Asis)
