MARIVELES, Bataan — The Administration Building of the Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB) was illuminated in blue at 6 p.m. Thursday as part of the global “Light the World in Blue” campaign marking World Maritime Day 2026.

The annual observance highlights the role of the maritime sector in global trade and promotes safe, secure, environmentally sound and efficient shipping.

AFAB said the activity also recognized the importance of maritime connectivity and port operations in supporting trade and investment in the Freeport Area of Bataan and its expansion areas.

World Maritime Day is an annual United Nations observance led by the International Maritime Organization that highlights international shipping’s role in global trade, maritime safety and security, environmental protection and sustainable development.

The observance also coincides with the Philippines’ Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month, or MANAMo, held every September to promote awareness of the country’s maritime sector and its contribution to national development. (AFAB Press Release)
