PH Navy celebrates 128th Anniversary, commissions BRP Rajah Lakandula

NAVAL STATION JOSE ANDRADA, Manila – The Philippine Navy marked its 128th Anniversary on June 9, 2026 at the Navy Headquarters, with the theme “PN @128: Modern and Ready, Strong and Steady – Credible in Mission, Always Mission-Ready,” graced by the AFP Commander-in-Chief, His Excellency Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., as Guest of Honor and Speaker.

A major highlight of this year’s anniversary is the commissioning of the Offshore Patrol Vessel, BRP Rajah Lakandula (PS21), a key addition to the Navy’s growing fleet. This development reflects the Philippine Navy’s continued commitment to strengthening maritime security, enhancing territorial defense, and contributing to regional peace and stability.

“Truly, this is a pivotal step towards realizing the Navy’s vision of a modern and self-reliant force,” said President Marcos Jr.

Over the past year, the Philippine Navy has demonstrated significant accomplishments aligned with its strategic priorities. It sustained extensive maritime patrols and surveillance operations, reinforced its role in the Comprehensive Archipelagic Defense Concept (CADC), and contributed to regional security through multilateral exercises and engagements.

These efforts were complemented by humanitarian assistance and disaster response missions, as well as civil-military operations that continue to earn the trust and confidence of the Filipino public.

In pursuit of modernization and organizational excellence, the Navy has expanded its capabilities with newly commissioned vessels and strengthened its operational readiness. Investments in cyber defense, leadership development, and personnel training further reinforce its transformation into a modern and multi-domain naval force. These advancements are supported by strong partnerships with allied nations that ensure interoperability and preparedness in addressing present and future maritime challenges.

“Ang lahat ng ating pinagsamang pagsisikap, pagbabantay, pagmamalasakit, at pagtutulungan ay nakatuon sa iisang layunin— para sa bayan, para sa ating karagatan at para sa mas magandang kinabukasan ng sambayanan,” said the the Flag Officer In Command, Vice Admiral Jose Ma Ambrosio Q Ezpeleta PN.

The President then expressed his confidence and gratitude to the Philippine Navy, while highlighting its service and commitment, “So, I thank you for always keeping our flag flying high even above the roughest waters. For your unwavering loyalty in the face of the storm, I say this: Bravo Zulu. Job well done to you all,” President Marcos Jr. said.

As the Philippine Navy commemorates 128 years of service, it calls on all Filipinos to stand in solidarity with its mission of safeguarding the nation’s seas and securing its future.

“Sa inyong pagbabantay sa ating karagatan, tangan ninyo hindi lamang ang watawat ng Pilipinas, kundi pati na rin ang tiwala at pag-asa ng sambayanang Pilipino,” the President added.
