Juvenile Brown Hawk Owl Rescued in Tarlac, Safely Released

TARLAC CITY — State workers from the Municipal Government of Victoria rescued a juvenile Brown Hawk Owl (Ninox scutulata) after a concerned resident reported its presence inside a private residence in Barangay Bora.

The responders turned over the owl to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) through the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) in Capas for proper assessment and handling.

CENRO Capas head Isagani Manalili said Wildlife Enforcement Officers examined the bird and found it healthy and fit for release. The owl was subsequently returned to its natural habitat.

Manalili emphasized the importance of public cooperation in wildlife conservation, urging residents to report wildlife sightings and allow trained personnel to handle such cases to ensure the animals’ safety.

Although not classified as endangered, the Brown Hawk Owl plays a vital role in maintaining ecological balance.

DENR Regional Executive Director Ralph Pablo likewise encouraged the public to report wildlife trade and other illegal activities to help strengthen biodiversity protection efforts.
