SUBIC BAY FREEPORT — A mix of faith and road safety awareness took center stage as various departments of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), civic groups, and motorcycle riders gathered for the “Blessing of the Helmets and Road Safety Advocacy” activity on Saturday, April 18, at the Sanctuario de San Roque grounds here.
The event aimed to promote responsible riding and strengthen safety practices among motorists, particularly motorcycle riders, through a combination of spiritual reflection and educational activities.
The program opened with a Holy Mass officiated by Rev. Fr. Noel Montes, followed by a road safety and driving refresher seminar led by Ashley Tirona of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) Olongapo-Zambales Licensing Office.

Rev. Fr. Noel Montes also blesses the motorcycles of riders who participated in the event.
Organizers said the initiative goes beyond seeking divine protection, underscoring the importance of discipline and awareness on the road.
“This gathering reminds us that safety is both a personal responsibility and a shared commitment. Through faith and education, we hope to inspire riders to prioritize life and safety at all times,” event organizer Derrick Quijano Manuel said.
The activity was conducted in partnership with the Rotary Club of Metro Olongapo, Olongapo Multi-Purpose Cooperative, and church-based organizations, further strengthening community involvement in promoting road safety advocacy within the Subic Bay Freeport and nearby areas.
