USNS Salvor Leads Historic Underwater Recovery Mission in Subic Bay

The USNS Salvor is reportedly working with the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) on an ongoing mission that began February 15 to locate the remains of around 250 American prisoners of war believed trapped in the Japanese hell ship Oryoku Maru, which sank in Subic Bay in 1944. The underwater excavation—considered one of the largest and most complex of its kind—is being conducted about 50 meters off the waters near Alava Wharf of Subic Bay Freeport in Zambales, Philippines.
