CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — As the annual Holy Week travel surge begins, Central Luzon’s top police official has intensified security measures across major transport hubs to ensure the safety of thousands of commuters.
Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) Director, Police Brigadier General Jess B. Mendez, personally conducted inspections at key bus terminals across the region on Wednesday, assessing the preparedness of police personnel and the effectiveness of security protocols in high-traffic areas.
Mendez evaluated police deployment, public assistance mechanisms, and overall security coverage, emphasizing the importance of visibility and readiness during peak travel periods.
In a bid to strengthen community engagement, he also boarded a passenger bus to interact directly with drivers and commuters, reminding them of safe travel practices.
Authorities have increased police presence not only in transport terminals but also in malls, churches, and other public convergence areas.
Assistance measures have likewise been reinforced with the activation of Police Assistance Desks (PADs) and Motorist Assistance Desks (MADs) along major highways to provide immediate aid to travelers.

In addition, “red teaming” operations are being conducted by regional staff and area inspectors under the supervision of the PRO3 Command Group. These efforts aim to identify operational gaps and ensure swift corrective actions on the ground.
“We want our commuters to feel safe and secure. That is why personal inspections are crucial to ensure proper deployment and preparedness of our personnel,” Mendez said, noting the continued collaboration with partner agencies and force multipliers.
The initiative aligns with the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) Focused Agenda, particularly in boosting police visibility, enhancing operational readiness, and fostering stronger ties with the community.
With thousands of personnel deployed across Central Luzon, PRO3 reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and order, promoting a safe and meaningful observance of Holy Week for the public. (Jason de Asis)
