The Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFOMS) extends our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Noel Bellen Samar, who passed away at approximately 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 21, following a medical procedure.
Radio broadcaster Samar, aged 54, was shot on Monday morning while traveling along Maharlika Highway in Guinobatan, Albay, sustaining four gunshot wounds to the body.
We assure the public that a thorough investigation is actively underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding this incident. Our Special Investigation Task Group (SITG “Samar”) is working in collaboration with the Philippine National Police to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
This event highlights the challenges faced by our media practitioners in their pursuit of truth and accountability. We stand in solidarity with journalists across the nation during these difficult times, reaffirming our steadfast commitment to upholding press freedom and ensuring the safety of all media workers.
