Aurora PPO Rolls Out Eco-Friendly Security Initiative for Tourism Hubs

BALER, Aurora — In a move that merges sustainability with safety, the Aurora Police Provincial Office (APPO) officially launched “Project B.E.R.T.” or the Bicycle Enhanced Rapid Team, during the culminating ceremony of the 30th Police Community Relations (PCR) Month at Camp Victor Ravina in Barangay Sabang, Baler on Monday, July 28, 2025.

With the tagline “Pedaling Protection, Serving with Speed,” Project B.E.R.T. introduces an innovative approach to police visibility and mobility across Aurora’s booming eco-tourism destinations. The initiative taps into the agility and environmental benefits of bicycle patrols, particularly in areas where traditional patrol vehicles have limited access.

The program was ceremonially launched in the presence of local officials, stakeholders, and partner organizations. Hon. Danilo A. Tolentino, Mayor of Dipaculao, represented Aurora Governor Reynante A. Tolentino as Guest of Honor.

APPO Provincial Director Police Colonel Robert L. Petate emphasized that the program reflects the evolving role of law enforcement in fostering proactive and community-centered policing.

“This project is more than a mobility solution—it’s a statement of our commitment to sustainable, responsive, and community-rooted law enforcement,” said Police Colonel Petate. “As Aurora continues to attract tourists, our presence must be felt where it matters most—not just for visibility, but for quick and compassionate service.”

The Tourist Police Unit (TPU), led by Police Major Ronaldo B. Valenzuela, was designated to implement Project B.E.R.T. Shortly after the launch, bicycle patrols were deployed to key areas in Baler including tourist sites, commercial establishments, and public convergence points.

Stakeholders from the Aurora Hotels, Resorts, and Restaurant Owners Association (AHRROA), the Provincial Tourism Office, barangay officials, and local advocacy groups expressed their support for the project.

Aside from enhancing mobility, B.E.R.T. also aims to promote environmental consciousness within law enforcement. By using bicycles, APPO reduces its operational carbon footprint while encouraging healthy lifestyles among police personnel—further aligning with the broader goals of responsible tourism.

Project B.E.R.T. is viewed as a model of police innovation that could be replicated in other provinces experiencing rapid tourism growth. With its strong backing from both public and private sectors, APPO hopes the initiative will set a new standard for adaptive and eco-friendly community policing in the Philippines.
