Bataan is gearing up for the first 5150 FAB Triathlon on Nov. 16, a milestone event that aims to make the province a top-level sports tourism destination.
The province is known for its pivotal role in World War II through the Battle of Bataan and the Bataan Death March.
The 5150 FAB Triathlon, organized by Sunrise Events, Inc., features an Olympic distance format of 1.5-km swim, 40-km bike ride and 10-km run.
“The 5150 FAB Triathlon reflects our strong belief in the Freeport’s capacity to become a hub for world-class sporting events. It’s an opportunity to showcase not just our world-class facilities, but also Bataan’s stunning coastal landscapes and the indomitable community spirit that defines our people,” said Freeport Area of Bataan (FAB) Administrator and CEO Hussein Pangandaman in a press statement on Friday.
“This triathlon is a catalyst for economic activity and tourism growth in Bataan. It’s a springboard to our goal of becoming a top-tier sports tourism destination,” he added.
Mariveles and the Freeport Area of Bataan, with a unique combination of challenging terrain, scenic views of the sea and mountains, and well-developed infrastructure, are emerging as strong contenders to rival established triathlon venues like Subic, Puerto Princesa and Cebu.
The 5150 FAB Triathlon offers wide-open roads, fresh air, and coastal vistas that promise both a physical test and a scenic experience. (PNA)
