PAMPANGA – A suspect was killed while his companion was wounded and arrested during a police operation in Barangay Anunas in Angeles City, Pampanga on Tuesday, the Police Regional Office (PRO) 3 said on Wednesday.
Policemen launched the operation at about 5:30 a.m. after receiving reports of suspicious motorcycle-riding individuals roaming Korea Town, an area recently plagued by snatching incidents.
The Angeles City Police Office (ACPO) deployed operatives of the City Intelligence Unit and Police Station 4 to track the suspects.
Citing reports from the field, PRO-3 said the suspects, on board a black Aerox motorcycle without a license plate, attempted to flee upon noticing police presence.
“When officers identified themselves, the backrider attempted to draw a firearm, but the weapon malfunctioned,” it said in a news release.
It added that the policemen reacted swiftly, “neutralizing the driver and wounding the backrider, later identified as ‘Alex,’ a resident of Magalang, Pampanga.”
Authorities were verifying the identity of the deceased suspect.
Police recovered a US Colt .45 caliber pistol with a partially defaced serial number, a magazine loaded with six live rounds, a chamber-loaded bullet, and a fired shell casing from the scene of the incident.
“This operation is a testament to our relentless pursuit of criminals and our dedication to maintaining peace and order,” PRO-3 Director, Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo, said.
Investigation is ongoing to determine the extent of the suspects’ criminal activities and possible connections to crime incidents in the area, the PRO-3 said. (Jason De Asis / PNA)
