25 Fleet officers don higher rank

ZAMBALES— 25 junior officers of the Philippine Fleet (PF) were promoted to the rank of lieutenant in a donning ceremony graced by PF Commander, Rear Adm. Renato David at the Integrated Mess Hall of Naval Operating Base (NOB) Subic, Zambales.

The Fleet Commander congratulated the promotees and reminded them of increased responsibilities that come with new ranks.

“For example, as a Lieutenant, there are higher expectations compared to when you were an Ensign. As an Ensign, mistakes might be tolerated, and supervision might be required. But as a Lieutenant, you are expected to supervise effectively,” David lamented.

He went on emphasizing that “the only way to handle these responsibilities is to be self-aware and focus on the rank we hold. Every time you are promoted, you carry the rank and the uniform, which is already a burden. As your rank increases, so do the expectations, and it is both a privilege and a responsibility.”

Most senior among the newly-promoted officers is Lt. Eda Glis Marapao. In her speech, she lauded her fellow officers “for meeting not only the standards of the promotion board but also the standards set forth by our respective units and the Navy as a whole.”
