A non-propelled barge ran aground near the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy complex in Barangay Natividad, San Narciso, Zambales.
According to a reports from the Philippine Coast Guard Sub-Station in San Narciso, the cargo ship/deck loading barge “Big Ger” was observed to have run aground during a routine foot patrol by CGSS personnel last July 25.
Upon verification, the barge is owned by Asian Shipping Corp. with business address at 50 North Bay Boulevard, Navotas. It originated from Bucao River, Botolan, Zambales with eight (8) crew members onboard.
It was being towed by Motor Tug “Healthy” in Botolan when the towing line snapped due to strong currents, causing the subject barge to drift and run aground the area. Currently, the MTUG Healthy is stranded approximately 0.75 nautical miles from Capones Island, San Antonio, Zambales with fifteen (15) crew members onboard.
The barge crewmembers were safely rescued by the CGSS San Narciso, Coast Guard Special Operations Unit Zambales, and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of San Narciso and were brought to the Rural Health Unit for medical check-up.
