Angeles Police hosts Presidential Task Force on Media Security case conference to address media harassments

Angeles City – The Angeles City Police Office (ACPO) convened a case conference under the auspices of the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS), aimed at addressing the alarming harassment against media practitioners.

The conference was prompted by recent incidents involving the harassment of media figures, Rowena Quejada of K5 News F.M. and Joann Manabat of Rappler. Both incidents have highlighted the threats faced by journalists in the pursuit of their duties.

During the conference, participants engaged in discussions regarding the challenges faced by media practitioners, including threats, intimidation, and violence. The importance of upholding press freedom and ensuring the safety and security of journalists was underscored as a fundamental pillar of democracy.

PCol Amado A Mendoza Jr, City Director ACPO, emphasized the commitment of law enforcement agencies to uphold the rule of law and protect the rights of media workers.

“The ACPO stands firm in its dedication to ensuring the safety of media practitioners and upholding their constitutional right to freedom of expression. We will work tirelessly to investigate and prosecute those responsible for any acts of harassment or violence against journalists,” stated Mendoza.

Furthermore, representatives from the PTFoMS reaffirmed the government’s unwavering support for press freedom and pledged to collaborate closely with law enforcement agencies to address cases of media harassment effectively.
