GMEC-GNPD opens its doors to Zambales & Bataan Media Outfits for the 2023 Media Plant Tour

BATAAN – GNPower Dinginin Ltd. Co. (GNPD) and GNPower Mariveles Energy Center Ltd. Co (GMEC) recently opened its doors to 12 media outfits from Bataan and Zambales and introduced them to the operations of the two power plants.

The event was participated by media representatives from DZRH, NET25, iOrbitNews, Punto Central Luzon, Central Luzon Herald, 88.7 FM Olongapo, KFive Zambales, and Radyo Bandera.

Led by the Community Relations Department, the Media Plant Tour kicked off with a welcome message from the AVP of the Community Relations Department, Arcel Madrid. Afterwards, GNPD Deputy Plant Manager Young Comaad explained the operations and equipment employed by GNPD, including its brief history, environmental aspects, and the breakdown of the plant processes. Arthur Mercado, Operations Support Supervisor, also represented GMEC and introduced its operations, materials, and processes while also entertaining the questions from the media outfits about the plant.

To further explain the goals and commitment of the companies to the community, Joey Chavez, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager of GMEC, presented the goals, programs, and achievements of the department, including their recent activities in reforestation and rehabilitation of the forestry in Mariveles, as well as the scholars they have taken under their wing.

Before heading off to the plant tour, Edgardo Cruz from GNPD’s Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) department briefed the media outfits about the essential safety gears and reminders for plant visitors. This orientation is a prerequisite for all visitors and employees who will visit the plant, following the efforts of GNPD to ensure that no one will be harmed or injured during the tour. Mike Delara from the GMEC-OSH department also gave valuable reminders and instructions on how to use the protective gears, and which areas require additional layers of personal protective equipment.

The representatives from GNPD and GMEC humbly toured the visitors around the two plants, including a brief visit to the country’s widest jetty area – the GNPD’s, and overlooked the highest chimney and largest coal dome in the Philippines with its enormous storage capacity for 275, 000 metric tons of coal.

GMEC & GNPD impels Media Plant Tours, both inviting local, regional, and national media outfits, to strengthen its relation to the media by introducing the procedures of the power plant, as well as explaining its impact and benefits to the community as it services the whole region of Central Luzon.
