OLONGAPO CITY — The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) Olongapo-Zambales Chapter has condemned the growing misuse of journalists’ photos and reports by social media pages in Zambales, accusing some of stealing content, altering it, and passing it off as their own.
In a statement, the group said several pages have been using photographs and news reports without permission, proper attribution, or respect for copyright, calling the practice a violation of journalism ethics and professional standards.
Among the examples cited by NUJP was the alleged unauthorized use of a photo taken by Jinseol Kim, photographer for The Premier Post, the official student publication of Columban College, which was reportedly edited and reposted by a Facebook page with its own watermark.
The group also pointed to the use of a photograph originally taken by Joanna Rose Aglibot for Philippine Daily Inquirer during Holy Week coverage in San Antonio, Zambales, which was allegedly reposted and altered by another social media page without permission.
NUJP Olongapo-Zambales called on page administrators to immediately remove all unauthorized content and reminded online content creators that “content theft is not journalism.”
