PRO3 Reports Manageable Holy Week Situation in Central Luzon; Urges Public Vigilance

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — The Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) reported a generally manageable peace and order situation across Central Luzon during the observance of Holy Week, despite an increase in incidents linked to heightened travel and outdoor activities at the peak of the summer season.

Based on monitoring from March 29 to April 5, 2026, authorities recorded a total of 140 incidents in the region. Among these, vehicular accidents (67) and drowning cases (14) were the most common, which police officials noted are typical during periods of heavy travel and increased visits to beaches and resorts.

Other incidents such as theft, robbery, and physical injury were also recorded, but authorities emphasized that the overall crime situation remained under control amid the influx of pilgrims, tourists, and motorists across the region.

However, PRO3 expressed concern over drowning incidents, stressing that many of these cases are preventable with proper vigilance and safety precautions.

PRO3 Regional Director Jess B. Mendez underscored the importance of public discipline and awareness, particularly in swimming areas.

“While the overall situation remains manageable, we cannot ignore that drowning incidents are preventable. A moment of negligence can cost a life. We urge everyone to be more cautious, especially in beaches and swimming areas,” Mendez said.

He added that PRO3 continues to implement the Philippine National Police Focused Agenda through sustained police visibility and proactive operations across the region.

“We have deployed our personnel in key areas to ensure immediate response and visibility. This is part of our commitment to keep our communities safe—serbisyong mabilis, tapat, at nararamdaman,” he said.

Under the Ligtas SUMVAC 2026 initiative, more than 13,000 personnel, including police forces, augmentation units, and force multipliers, have been deployed throughout Central Luzon. These personnel are assigned to strategic locations such as major highways, transportation terminals, tourist destinations, and places of worship.

The deployment is expected to continue until May 31, 2026, to ensure public safety during the summer vacation period. Authorities also reminded the public that maintaining safety during the summer season is a shared responsibility. “Enjoy your vacation, but stay alert. Simple precautions can save lives,” Mendez added. (Jason de Asis)
