SUBIC BAY FREEPORT — The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Fire Department has rolled out a series of activities and programs in observance of Fire Prevention Month 2026, aimed at strengthening fire safety awareness and emergency preparedness among stakeholders within the Subic Bay Freeport Zone.
Anchored on this year’s theme, “Act Early, Prevent Fire, and Save Lives and Property,” the month-long campaign brings together various SBMA departments and offices, Freeport-registered enterprises, schools, and residents in a unified effort to promote a culture of safety and vigilance.

Among the highlights of the celebration are the Mini Fire Olympics held at the Tipo Hi-tech Eco Park (THEP) in Hermosa, Bataan, and at the Taiwanese-run Subic Bay Gateway Park. The competitions featured teams from Freeport locators and tenants demonstrating their skills and teamwork in events such as fire extinguisher and hose relay, emergency carry relay, and tug-of-war.

To further enhance internal preparedness, the SBMA also conducted a comprehensive fire emergency evacuation drill involving its personnel. This initiative aims to ensure a swift and coordinated response in the event of fire-related incidents.

Recognizing the importance of industry-specific safety measures, the SBMA Fire Department organized a kitchen and restaurant fire safety training seminar for enterprises engaged in the hotel, restaurant, and tourism sectors within the Freeport.

In line with its commitment to community engagement, the agency also hosted a fire open house and educational tour for schoolchildren and residents, providing participants with firsthand knowledge of fire prevention practices and emergency response procedures.
Meanwhile, SBMA Fire Department personnel continue to undergo regular in-house drills, including endurance tests, ladder evolution exercises, and hose lay-outing operations, to maintain a high level of readiness in responding to emergencies.
Through these initiatives, the SBMA reinforces its commitment to safeguarding lives, property, and investments within the Subic Bay Freeport Zone by fostering a proactive and well-prepared community. (Text and photos for Ang Pahayagan / JUN DUMAGUING)
