CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — Police authorities in Central Luzon arrested a 58-year-old woman and seized more than Php1.6 million worth of suspected smuggled cigarettes during a buy-bust operation in Orion, Bataan on March 21, 2026.
The operation was carried out in Sitio Araro, Barangay San Vicente by operatives from the Provincial Intelligence Unit of the Bataan Police Provincial Office, in coordination with the Orion Municipal Police Station and the Bureau of Customs, under a Target Intelligence Packet.
Authorities said the suspect was apprehended after selling five master cases of RGD cigarettes to an undercover police officer in exchange for Php11,500 in marked money during the buy-bust transaction.
Further inspection led to the recovery of seven master cases of RGD cigarettes and twenty master cases of Modern cigarettes, with a combined estimated value of Php1,687,500. The seized items were immediately marked and inventoried at the scene in the presence of representatives from the Bureau of Customs to ensure proper documentation and transparency.
Regional Director Jess B. Mendez of the Police Regional Office 3 commended the operating units for the successful operation and emphasized that the accomplishment supports the government’s intensified campaign against smuggling.
“This operation reflects our sustained campaign against the proliferation of smuggled cigarettes that undermines our economy. In line with the directive of SILG Juanito Victor Remulla, we are strengthening inter-agency coordination and intensifying enforcement actions to curb all forms of illicit trade,” Mendez said.
He added that the operation is consistent with the agenda of the Philippine National Police, particularly in strengthening the management of police operations and intensifying the fight against illegal trade.
Mendez assured the public that PRO3 will continue to pursue individuals involved in illicit activities and ensure strict enforcement of the law.
All confiscated items will be turned over to the Bureau of Customs and other appropriate authorities for further examination and proper disposition. (Jason de Asis)
