CLARK FREEPORT— Authorities intercepted approximately 17.5 kilograms of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) worth an estimated ₱119 million concealed inside crystal resin countertops during a joint operation.
The operation was carried out by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) – Port of Clark, in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Clark Inter-Agency Task Force Against Illegal Drugs (CRK-IATFAID).
The shipment, which originated from Las Vegas, United States, and was bound for Makati City, was flagged after authorities received derogatory information from PDEA. Upon arrival at the Port of Clark, the parcel underwent X-ray scanning which revealed unusual images, prompting further inspection.
A K9 sweep conducted by PDEA yielded a positive indication for suspected dangerous drugs. Authorities then carried out a 100 percent physical examination, leading to the discovery of two black rectangular resin blocks containing white crystalline substances concealed inside the countertops.

The substances, weighing approximately 17,500 grams, were subjected to laboratory examination and later confirmed to be methamphetamine hydrochloride, classified as a dangerous drug under Republic Act No. 9165.
Following the discovery, District Collector Jairus S. Reyes issued a Warrant of Seizure and Detention against the shipment for violations of Sections 118(g), 119(d), and 1113 paragraphs f, i, and l (3 and 4) of Republic Act No. 10863, or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act, in relation to Republic Act No. 9165, as amended.
Reyes commended the efforts of Customs personnel and partner agencies involved in the operation.
“I commend our officers and partner agencies for their vigilance and swift coordination in intercepting this shipment. Their commitment and teamwork are crucial in safeguarding our borders and protecting our communities from the dangers posed by illegal drugs,” Reyes said.
Customs Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno also emphasized the importance of strong inter-agency cooperation in combating illegal drugs.
“The success of this operation underscores the value of deep-rooted coordination among our partner agencies. By strengthening collaboration and sharing intelligence, we ensure that our borders remain secure and that illegal drugs are prevented from reaching our communities,” Nepomuceno said.
The Bureau of Customs reiterated its commitment to intensify border protection and strengthen coordination with law enforcement agencies to curb the entry of illegal drugs into the country.
