7th Infantry Division Distributes Food Packs to GIDA Communities in Dingalan, Aurora

DINGALAN, Aurora — The 7th Infantry (Kaugnay) Division of the Philippine Army distributed 381 food packs to residents of Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs) in Barangay Umiray, Dingalan, Aurora, as part of its continuing efforts to sustain peace and promote community development in formerly conflict-affected areas.

The humanitarian activity was conducted on January 21, 2026, at Sitio Singawan, Brgy. Umiray, and benefited families from Sitio Singawan, Sitio Pinamaypayan, Sitio Dugyan, and Sitio Kamandag. The initiative was conceptualized and directed by Major General Joseph Norwin D. Pasamonte PA, Commander of the 7th Infantry Division, following the successful dismantling of the Komiteng Rehiyon Gitnang Luzon (DKRGL).

Army officials said the activity aimed to provide immediate assistance to vulnerable communities while reinforcing cooperation among the military, local government units, and residents. It also forms part of the Division’s broader strategy to sustain the gains of internal security operations by addressing basic needs and strengthening public trust in government institutions.

In addition to the distribution of food packs, personnel from the 91st Infantry Battalion conducted information and education sessions for residents. The discussions covered the Anti-Terrorism Law, the current situation in the West Philippine Sea, and the deceptive recruitment tactics of the New People’s Army (NPA), with the goal of increasing community awareness and resilience against misinformation and extremist influence.

The activity was attended by senior military officials, including Maj. Gen. Pasamonte; Brigadier General Eugenio Julio C. Osias IV PA, Commander of the 703rd Infantry Brigade; Colonel Jed L. Reyes, Assistant Chief of Staff for Civil-Military Operations (G7); Lieutenant Colonel Aries A. Quinto PA, Commanding Officer of the 91st Infantry Battalion; and Lieutenant Colonel Russel Anthony B. Bumanglag, Commanding Officer of the 7th Civil-Military Operations Battalion. Local government officials were also present, led by Barangay Chairperson Hon. Sabino B. Sumawang and Dingalan Vice Mayor Hon. Nhorwin G. Capulong.

In his message, Maj. Gen. Pasamonte emphasized that lasting peace goes beyond security operations and requires meaningful service to communities.

“Peace cannot be achieved by military action alone. It must be felt by the people through genuine support and care. This activity shows our commitment to help communities recover and move forward after years of conflict,” Pasamonte said, adding that the Army will continue working closely with local governments and residents to sustain peace and development.

Brig. Gen. Osias IV underscored the importance of community involvement in maintaining peace and stability.

“The success of our operations is only the beginning. Rebuilding trust and strengthening unity with our communities are essential to ensuring that peace is sustained. The Philippine Army is here not only to secure areas, but also to serve the people,” Osias said.

Residents of Barangay Umiray expressed gratitude for the assistance, noting that the food packs provided much-needed support, especially for families living in remote areas with limited access to basic services.

The outreach activity highlights the continuing commitment of the 7th Infantry Division and its subordinate units to promote peace, security, and inclusive development in Aurora Province and the greater Central Luzon area. (Jason de Asis)
