PAMPANGA — The Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) destroyed thousands of illegal firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices confiscated across Central Luzon as part of its intensified public safety measures ahead of the New Year festivities.
The ceremonial destruction was carried out on Monday, December 29, in coordination with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), which facilitated the safe and proper disposal of the prohibited items. The activity forms part of the region’s proactive efforts to prevent firecracker-related injuries, fires, and other holiday-related incidents.
Among the destroyed items were various illegal firecrackers and pyrotechnics, including boga (improvised cannons), kwitis, goodbye Philippines, lolo thunder, plapla, tuna, judas belt, and giant whistle bombs, with a total estimated value of more than Php500,000. These were confiscated during sustained police operations and inspections conducted by PRO3 units throughout Central Luzon.
Police Brigadier General Ponce Rogelio I. Peñones Jr., Regional Director of PRO3, said the activity reflects the region’s strict adherence to the PNP Focused Agenda, particularly on Enhanced Managing Police Operations.

“The removal and destruction of these prohibited firecrackers are preventive measures to protect lives, prevent injuries, and avoid unnecessary incidents,” Police Brig. General Peñones Jr. said. “This initiative is fully aligned with our 3Ps—Protect the People, Pursue Peace and Order, and Promote Professionalism. We continue to urge the public to welcome the New Year safely and responsibly, in cooperation with law enforcement and other government agencies.”
PRO3 reiterated its call for public cooperation and compliance with existing regulations on firecrackers and pyrotechnics, emphasizing that community vigilance and responsible celebration are key to ensuring a safe and incident-free New Year across Central Luzon. (Jason de Asis)
