Gatchalian Extends Cash, Food Aid to Storm-Hit Aurora as Rains Persist

AURORA — As Aurora braces for more rains in the coming weeks, Senator Sherwin “Win” Gatchalian traveled to the province on Saturday, November 22, 2025, to assess the situation of communities still recovering from the devastation caused by Super Typhoon Uwan.

The senator led the distribution of cash and food assistance to thousands of affected residents in an event held at the Provincial Capitol Annex Building in Barangay Suklayin, Baler, providing much-needed relief to families working to rebuild their lives.

Aurora was among the provinces hardest hit by the super typhoon, which battered Northern and Central Luzon and left widespread damage to homes, livelihoods, and essential services. According to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), 40,392 families in the province were adversely affected. Gatchalian emphasized the importance of sustained rehabilitation efforts, especially with additional weather disturbances expected before the year ends.

“Sana ay magpatuloy at lalo pang tumibay ang mga rehabilitasyon at pagbangon ng mga biktima ng bagyo. Nandito lang tayo para tuloy-tuloy nating matulungan ang mga nasalanta sa kanilang pagbangon,” he said, echoing PAGASA’s warning regarding potential upcoming storms.

In partnership with the local government of Valenzuela City, Gatchalian—joined by Valenzuela City Councilors Mickey Pineda and Nina Lopez—distributed PHP1.9 million in cash aid and PHP2.193 million worth of rice to affected families across the municipalities of Casiguran, Dipaculao, Maria Aurora, Dingalan, San Luis, Dinalungan, and Baler.

PAGASA earlier reported that the shear line—where warm and cold air masses converge, producing rain-bearing clouds—will continue to bring cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and isolated thunderstorms over parts of Luzon, including Aurora. Weather authorities cautioned that these conditions may persist, increasing the risk of flooding and landslides in vulnerable communities.

Senator Gatchalian was joined during the distribution by Congressman Rommel Rico T. Angara, Governor Isidro P. Galban, Provincial Board Member Yam Tolentino, all municipal mayors of Aurora, department heads, and other local officials. Governor Galban and Congressman Angara expressed their gratitude for the assistance extended by the senator and his team, noting that the support would significantly help families still struggling to recover.

Local officials stressed that rehabilitation remains a major challenge as communities continue to restore damaged infrastructure and revive livelihoods.
