PNP, Stakeholders Strengthen Campaign vs. Fake News in ‘War on Truth’ Forum

PAMPANGA — The Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3), through its Regional Community Affairs Division headed by Police Colonel Ferdinand D. Germino, spearheaded the “War on Truth: A Consultative Forum” on August 28, 2025, uniting government agencies, partners, and stakeholders in the fight against fake news, misinformation, and disinformation.

The forum provided a platform for dialogue and collaboration, focusing on strategies to safeguard truth, uphold public trust, and counter the dangers of false information that threaten peace and social order. Key discussions included: “Understanding Disinformation, Misinformation, and Malinformation” presented by the Philippine Information Agency Region 3 (PIA-3); “National Landscape on Disinformation & Public Security” by the Philippine Coast Guard District Central Luzon (PCG-3); “Journalism Ethics and Ethical Information Sharing” by the National Telecommunications Commission Region 3 (NTC-3); and “Challenges in Cybercrime Investigation” by the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit 3 (RACU-3).

In his message delivered by PCOL Reynaldo S. Ogay Jr., Deputy Regional Director for Operations, Police Brig. General Ponce Rogelio I. Peñones Jr., Regional Director of PRO3, emphasized the importance of truth as the cornerstone of public trust. He underscored that through unity and collaboration, stakeholders can strengthen defenses against disinformation and ensure the public receives accurate and reliable information.

The event follows the first consultative forum held last May 2 at the PNP National Headquarters, which also marked the launch of the Joint Anti-Fake News Action Committee (JAFNAC). This initiative represents the PNP’s unified effort to institutionalize proactive measures against information manipulation.

The latest forum in Central Luzon builds on this momentum, widening the conversation and fortifying networks across sectors. It serves as a strong reminder that truth must prevail over deception in protecting communities and maintaining social stability. (Jason de Asis)
