ZAMBALES– Reinforcing its commitment to developing future civil engineers, the District Engineers League of the Philippines, Inc. (DELP), through District Engineer Rey Lerio of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – Zambales 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO), has awarded an educational assistance grant to John Carlo Gonzales, an incoming civil engineering student.
This scholarship, part of the DELP Cares initiative—formally known as the DELP Educational Assistance for Civil Engineering Students (DEACES)—supports deserving students selected by their respective local DEOs.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) formalizing the grant was signed on May 26, 2025, with Lerio, Gonzales and his father, Nicasio Gonzales—an employee at the Zambales 2nd DEO—OIC-Assistant District Engineer Jonathan Labio, and Engineer Daisy Umbina in attendance.
The annual scholarship, disbursed in two equal semester installments, covers essential educational expenses and includes supplemental funding for academic training or seminars, subject to endorsement by the beneficiary’s school.
In a statement, Lerio underscored the department’s broader vision of empowering the next generation of engineers, noting that the initiative aims to ensure capable and deserving students can pursue their dreams without being hindered by financial constraints.
“We believe that investing in future engineers is investing in the nation’s infrastructure and progress,” he said.
Through DEACES, the DPWH and DELP continue to inspire young Filipinos to pursue careers in engineering and contribute to nation-building—one scholar at a time.
