ZAMBALES—The Philippine Coast Guard is now conducting a search and rescue (SAR) operation for the missing fisherman in the vicinity waters 62 nautical miles southeast off Sampaloc Point, Subic, Zambales.
PCG Spokesperson, CG Rear Admiral Armando Balilo, said Filipino fishing boat, Fbca John Robert, was hit by an unidentified vessel, causing it to sink.
“47-year-old Robert Mondoñedo survived the incident but his brother Jose remains missing,” Balilo added.
Mondoñedo narrated that they departed on 01 July from Barangay Wawandaue, Subic, going to their payao in the vicinity waters off Sampaloc Point when an unidentified vessel hit their fishing boat at around 3p.m. on July 3.
He held on to their payao for three days until Fbca Irish Mae passed by and rescued him morning of 06 July.
The Coast Guard Station (CGS) Zambales immediately issued a notice to mariners, as well as coordinated with neighboring barangays and local fisherfolks for possible sightings of the missing fisherman.
“As per the directive of PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil L Gavan, the CGS Zambales investigates the allision report and gathers additional information regarding the incident for appropriate measures,” Balilo emphasized.
