No damage to Luzon airports after magnitude 6.3 Batangas quake

MANILA – Airports across Luzon have not reported damage from the magnitude 6.3 earthquake that jolted Batangas on Thursday, authorities said.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said the building and equipment at San Jose Airport in Mindoro did not sustain major damage.

No damage was reported by the Calapan Airport, Jomalig Airport, Lubang Airport, Mamburao Airport, Pinamalayan Airport, Sangley Airport, San Jose Airport, Subic Airport, and the Clark Tower, CAAP said.

The magnitude 6.3 quake struck 15 kilometers southwest of Calatagan, Batangas at 10:19 a.m.

As the earthquake was felt in Metro Manila, the runways and taxiways of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport were closed from 10:23 a.m. to 10:34 a.m. to check for possible damage to the pavements.

No damage was seen and the runways were immediately opened.

The inspection did not affect the operations across the airport terminals and no flight was affected, according to the Manila International Airport Authority. (Ma. Cristina Arayata / PNA)
